Navistar, Inc. Bus Platform Chief Engineer in Lisle, Illinois

Position Overview

We are seeking a Bus Platform Chief Engineer to join our team at Navistar! In this role, you will work in the Bus Platform within the R&D Organization at the Navistar Lisle facility, you will also work closely with the Bus Business Unit. You will have engineering accountability for vehicle level performance attributes, quality, cost, and delivery of the bus models.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the R&D Organization to the Bus BU team and represent the Bus BU needs to the R&D Organization and relevant Program Teams

  • Manage the application engineering team for the Bus Platform

  • Program charter support for bus vehicle strategic planning and vehicle performance attribute requirements

  • Translate customer wants into engineering requirements

  • Program support for tradeoffs on packaging, performance, cost and quality

  • Drive resolution of engineering quality issues and meet quality metrics

  • Drive expanded feature implementation and manage the change control board for the bus product

  • Support the Bus Sales team on special request consultation, order coding, and bid proposal support

  • Engineering interface and support for the aftersales team

  • Assure bus product meets federal and state regulatory requirements

  • Build and maintain a healthy relationship with the Tulsa Bus Plant

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 15 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience

  • At least 6 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience

  • At least 6 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

  • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 9 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies and/or computer science experience

  • At least 6 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to make complex tradeoff decisions

  • High sense of urgency and ownership

  • Commercial vehicle product development experience

  • School bus development experience

  • Knowledge of school bus industry, requirements, and regulations
