Position Overview

Navistar is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Scientist Lead to join our Analytics team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing analytic models and solutions with a focus on vehicle electrification and parts supply chain. You will work on challenging and high-impact projects that leverage data from various sources and systems to optimize vehicle performance, energy efficiency, and parts availability.

This role requires a well-rounded individual with not only experience in modeling but also in visualization, data engineering, storytelling, and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, organize, and interpret structured and unstructured data from multiple internal and external sources

  • Analyzing large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to measure performance and inform business growth or cost savings opportunities

  • Extract key results from uncleansed data, and succinctly summarize findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Work independently, but recognize where key points of collaboration are required to facilitate wider product development

  • Experience in time series forecasting models, statistical methods such as (S)ARIMA, exponential smoothing or machine learning algorithms for demand forecasting

  • Staying updated with the latest trends and developments in data science, vehicle electrification, and supply chain optimization

  • Research new theories and technologies to solve business problems

  • Demonstrate resilience in dealing with ambiguity/uncertainty and translating vague requests into actionable insights

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science/Analytics, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Natural Science, Economics, Engineering or similar quantitative field

  • At least 5 years of analytics or statistical analysis experience

OR

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science/Analytics, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Natural Science, Economics, Engineering or similar quantitative field

  • At least 3 years of analytics or statistical analysis experience

OR

  • PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science/Analytics, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Natural Science, Economics, Engineering or similar quantitative field

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Professional experience with a variety of machine learning algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised learning, classification, regression, and forecasting

  • Strong programming skills using Python and tools such as Synapse, Databricks, and Palantir Foundry

  • Strong problem-solving skills and business acumen. Ability to deal with ambiguity and find creative ways to solve problems

  • Comfortable with collaboration on code development and version control using Git

  • Proficiency in data engineering principles and use languages including SQL, Python, Spark, and Palantir Foundry for data preprocessing

  • Experience with cloud computing, preferably Azure

  • Demonstrated ability in data visualization and storytelling to effectively communicate findings through tools such as PowerBI, Streamlit, Palantir Workshop or other visualization tools

  • Experience with agile methodologies and project management using tools such as Azure DevOps

  • Ability to work within cross functional teams including Data Engineers, Analysts, Domain Experts, Product Owners, and other Data Scientists
