Position Overview

Navistar is seeking an Electric Engineering Technician at the Navistar’s Proving Grounds in New Carlisle, IN.

The Electrical and Electronics Systems Test group performs validation testing of the future electrical systems of Navistar’s trucks and buses. This testing includes electronics, software, power conversion, distribution, communications, telematics, hands on wiring repairs, and electrical vehicle. The prospective candidate should have a skill set to support all of these technical areas.

Responsibilities

• Supporting testing engineers in instrumenting and test data collection. Performing validation testing following written test procedures

• Electrical diagnosis and repair of vehicle electrical issues

• Implementing electrical system changes to prototype vehicles

• Using and maintaining vehicle diagnostics computer software

• Ordering and maintaining repair parts inventory. Fabricating wire harness overlays

• Inspection of completed wiring harness and harness routing and clipping quality for prototype vehicles

• Maintaining test equipment and calibration, as well as developing new test equipment

Minimum Requirements

• Associate’s degree

• At least 1 year of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience

OR

• At least 2 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience

Additional Requirements

• Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

• Fabrication, assembly, check-out, modification, and testing of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, or specialized test equipment

• Reading schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing

• Performing operational testing and fault isolation on electrical systems and equipment

• Using diagnostic software to program, configure, or troubleshoot engine, transmission, brakes, and vehicle microcontrollers

• Construction, test and check-out of test equipment

• Manufacturing, testing, development of diagnostic equipment. Including, but not limited to, computer-based test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus

• Development of testing process improvements
